Recently, the author walked into the company's mining sites in Congo (DRC) and Zambia to see the style of the "Iron Army of drilling wells".

The kinsenda Project Department of Tongguan mining and construction company is located in Luben Brazil, the second largest city in Congo, more than 250 kilometers away from the city. The construction of the project started in November 2013. In August this year, the author came to the scene. The entrance to the living area is through a gate guarded by gang members. Looking at his swarthy face, it is infuriating that he is rigid and stubborn, and he has to admire his toughness. After half an hour, the car was finally released. The duty officer stood aside and saluted respectfully. The next day, I went to the wellhead and went down to the well. When I passed the mining area, I met several gunmen patrolling. They all went to the side of the car seriously to check their certificates. When I was released, they raised their hands and smiled and saluted. Colleagues in the car said that the implementation system of the Congolese personnel is "leverage", and they are also very friendly to the Chinese personnel. They are all called "boss".
High efficiency mining
Enter the underground construction site of the project department along the ramp. The tunnel is surrounded by water gushing and face-to-face pouring. Soon, the whole body is soaked. We dragged our heavy rubber boots and waded carefully across the "underground river". Each underground mining, excavation, anchor net, installation, drainage and other operation points are led by one Chinese employee to work by six or seven rigid employees, some operate rock drilling jumbo, some drive scraper, some pick up gangue. Due to the severe weathering and continuous water gushing of the surrounding rock in the working face, the surrounding rock is like quicksand when encountering water, and the roadway in the broken section of the rock stratum is supported by steel support; the mining area is affected by the water pouring, so the employees work hard in raincoats.
Zuohe told the author that due to the irregular trend, uneven thickness and 22 degree dip angle of the ore body, the project department adopts the "upward layered mining method", and the monthly output is much higher than other teams of the mine. Several inverted section air shafts shall be constructed in each middle section. The project department adopts the "upward medium deep hole section blasting method" and the internationally advanced s7d drilling jumbo with flexible displacement and trackless operation. The bottom hole with a diameter of 63mm and a depth of 25m shall be drilled first, and the efficiency is extremely high after interval charging and section blasting. A well with a diameter of 3 meters and a depth of 25 meters can be built in 7 days, and the well formation is excellent. Under the joint efforts of Chinese rigid side employees, from the end of 2013 to July this year, the project department has completed 140000 cubic meters of excavation, 2775 cubic meters of support, 156000 tons of mining (accounting for 3 / 5 of the total mining volume), and 562 support steel supports, with outstanding achievements.
More work, more work
In recent years, the project department has trained a large number of technical personnel such as drilling jumbo, scraper operator and HOWO production vehicle driver, realizing localization of technical workers. However, many foreign-funded enterprises have also entered the Democratic Republic of Congo. Especially last year, an American company opened an open-pit mine in korovic City, which is more than 500 kilometers away from the project department, to recruit trackless equipment operators with high wages, resulting in the outflow of some technicians. In this regard, the project department actively takes measures to stabilize the personnel. First, it focuses on kinsenda village with a population of 12000 nearby, and preferentially recruits villagers. Second, it implements the policy of taking the old with the new, and the tutor with the apprentice. Third, it conducts the assessment and incentive for the on-the-job trackless equipment operators, such as the reward of $50 to $100 for full attendance in the current month, one more car for mining and one more dollar for drilling jumbo Add $10 to the stubble cannon to achieve more work.
Congo (DRC) law stipulates that enterprises must sign a labor contract for three months of employment, and they cannot be dismissed unless there is a violation of the law after signing the contract. For this reason, the recruiters of the project department are very careful. The hired personnel must be able to hold up the half height tires of the car. The small electrician must be able to pick up the light wire, and the large electrician must be able to pick up the switch cabinet, etc. Through recruitment, they employ a large number of local personnel, which not only meet the needs of enterprises, but also provide employment channels for local villagers.
"If you don't work hard today, try to find a job tomorrow" is what Zhou Xiaoping, the head of the construction area, often says in English. In order to fundamentally change the habit of off-duty drinking of gang employees, the project department will link the monthly welfare distribution with attendance, stipulate that 2 bags of fine marbles (the main food of gang employees, i.e. corn flour) will be sent out for 22 days of attendance, 1 bag for 15 to 22 days of attendance, and no fine marbles will be sent out for less than 15 days of attendance. Through the right remedy, the phenomenon of random off-duty of the staff of gang Fang has gradually improved.
